Speaking Up for the Town
Care for Cleveleys is not a political or campaigning group. But in the absence of a Town Council we find ourselves, from time to time, Speaking Up for the Town.
We always try to work collaboratively and in partnership – with public sector, business and other groups. It’s much more pleasant and rewarding to resolve issues in an amicable manner.
But sometimes speaking up for the town – for what’s right and fair – is the only option. And that’s where Care for Cleveleys comes in. As a large online community of people who care passionately about the town, our Facebook Group provides a large collective voice when we need to speak out.
Here’s what we’ve spoken out about –
Marks and Spencer Foodhall moving to Norcross
M&S is planning to build a large new food store at Norcross roundabout and close the Cleveleys store. There are many reasons why closing Cleveleys is a bad idea. In January 2025 we started a campaign and online petition to try to persuade the multi-national that a Cleveleys food store should remain open.

Closure of the NatWest Bank
In January 2025 the NatWest released details of branches they are closing all over the country – of which Cleveleys is one. Our online petition probably won’t make one scrap of difference but we’ve had the satisfaction of registering our displeasure.

Repair of the Seafront Railings
The town’s patience ran out in 2021 when highways authority Lancashire County Council just wouldn’t apply themselves to mending the seafront railings. So we mounted a bit of a campaign to speed up the process! Various members of the public wrote poems about the long-standing state of the fence. Together with a gallery of prose it did the trick and the fence was repaired.

Saving the Clock Shelter
And the thing that started all of this Care for Cleveleys malarkey in the first place! Way back in 2014 our much-loved Clock Shelter looked just about ready for falling over. It was the public campaign to save it which kick-started the momentum for the Care for Cleveleys movement.
