What we did in 2026…

2026 is shaping up to be another busy year. Now that we’re getting to grips with operating the Shop, our attention is back on the town and making it lovely. We’ve done lots of projects again this year, but there’s also all the work to operate the Shop on top of this! Open six days a week, it takes 24 volunteer sessions to keep the doors open. A further five volunteers spend Tuesdays each week sorting and pricing new stock. Thursdays maintenance team work hard to make and mend and maintain anything that needs it. Plus there’s cash to count and bank, policies and procedures, and a host of extra general admin.

January 26	Drew up and agreed our plans, priorities and event dates for the coming year. 6 Jan – held our annual Volunteer Recruitment Event, this time at the Care for Cleveleys Shop. 14 Jan – Soulful Wednesday fundraiser at the Top Club 26 Jan – Hosted the Millstores/Cleveleys coach operators familiarisation visit Held our monthly C4C Meet Up and the usual monthly Clean Up. Monday crochet and knitting group. Bi-weekly Thursday messy crafts – this month making Valentine clay love hearts to sell in the Shop

June 26	1 June – Three volunteers visited each shop and business in town with an invite and information about this years ‘Blooming Cleveleys Business’ campaign 9 June – Received our second delivery of ‘Sea Swallow’ books which we sell in the shop 11 June – Soulful Wednesday 11 June – 16 self watering half-barrels delivered for installation at Cleveleys Square, funded by a UKPSF grant. 20 June – We’d bought the plants and compost and then made the barrels up on-site. A big job! 13 June – Held the annual Dancing on the Prom event, which became an event at Princess Road due to the wind 15 June – Volunteers party at The Venue, thanks to a generous donation from Glasdon, specifically to say ‘thankyou’ to the people who make a difference. 21 June – Artisan Street Fair 28 June – Street Party with DJ Danny Spent the whole of this month working flat out on Cleveleys In Bloom. Including weeding the town by hand, developing, planting and weeding the new Derby Road Garden, plus all the other existing planting across town. Sanded and painted all the brown town centre benches Sanded and painted most of the the old green benches across town in a lively bright green! What we did in 2025…

January 25	Drew up and agreed our plans, priorities and event dates for the coming year. 7 Jan – held another Volunteer Recruitment Event at The Top Club. So many people came along it was practically standing room only! 19 Jan – Planted our own ‘little wood’ at Derby Road with tiny little whips collected from Wyre Council. 20 Jan – volunteers attended County Hall at Preston for the presentation of our King’s Award. 22 Jan – the new bi-monthly C4C Quiz begins! 30 Jan – volunteers attended a Mayoral Reception for KAVS winners at the Civic Centre in Poulton. Held our new monthly C4C Meet Up and the usual monthly Clean Up.
February 25	4 Feb – a very enjoyable flag making workshop at Manor Beach School, before our first Mythic Coast event. 4 Feb – volunteers attended a reception at County Hall for In Bloom Gold winners. 9 Feb – paid for and replaced a notice board in the bus station – somewhere to promote our events. 15 Feb – sadly the weather was awful so the first Mythic Coast event moved indoors to the Top Club. But it was a great event and launch of our own short play! Held a Spring Gardening Talk in association with the Rossall Beach Group, with Greg Anderton from Leafy Lytham. 25 Feb – the last of our UKSPF funded events – ‘The Ogres’ Award Ceremony. Huge fun and a brilliant afternoon to thank all the volunteers for everything they’ve done. Held our usual monthly Meet Up and Clean Up.
March 25	1 March – topped up the compost in the big grey pots, replanted everything, adding spring bedding. 5 March – Liz B held another coffee morning, raising funds for C4C. 13 March – launched the new Shops & Businesses In Bloom Competition. 19 March – second of the new C4C Fun Quizzes. 21 March – the Bollard Babes started renewing the bollard toppers, plus a delightful Easter post box topper. 31 March – decorated the wall of the long flower bed at Rough Lea Road with butterflies. Held our usual monthly Clean Up and monthly Meet Up.
April 25	8 April – held a Cleveleys stall at the StayBlackpool trade show. 12 April – hosted a fabulous Easter Fun Day in the town centre. 25 April – got the keys to our new place at 2 Princess Road. Now the work begins! 29 April – the BIG REVEAL of the new C4C SHOP! Held our usual monthly Clean Up and monthly Meet Up.
May 25	4 May – volunteers spent Sunday afternoon decorating the town in bunting to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day on 8 May 2025. 7 May – two founding volunteers (Betty and Nora) attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace in recognition of our King’s Award for Voluntary Service. 17 May – delivered a fabulous Meet the Ogre fun day, complete with entertainment from Thornton Band and a whole host of fun! 19 May – installed Mary’s Garden v2 outside Peacocks – made from recycled materials and a pretty photo spot! Held our usual monthly Clean Up and monthly Meet Up. Spent the whole of this month working flat out on decorating, fitting and converting our new place at Princess Road.
June 25	16 June – organised installation of a new steel arch in the grass verge at Derby Road car park. Soon to be centrepiece of a new ‘pocket park’ garden. 17 June – Louby Lou came along to host the first Summer of Fun event at Princess Road. 19 June – hosted judges from North West In Bloom, showing them around the town and the work of the team. Fingers crossed we get another Gold! 28 June – The second Summer of Fun event was the arrival of the Bubble Fairy! Held our usual monthly Clean Up and monthly Meet Up. Spent the whole of this month working flat out on decorating, fitting and converting our new place at Princess Road.
July 25	Spent the whole of this month working flat out on decorating, fitting and converting our new place at Princess Road. 3 July – interview with BBC Radio Lancashire, about the difference that Care for Cleveleys makes to the town. 9 July – Soulful Wednesday turned one this month! It’s a year since this amazingly successful fundraiser began, raising loads of money for projects in town. 12 July – hosted our first event on the new events space at Princess Road – a Punch and Judy Fun Day! 18 July – Held a VIP Preview of the new Care for Cleveleys Shop, showing stakeholders and supporters around the space. 19 July – the BIG DAY! The Ogre opened the shop doors for the very first time, after entertainment from the Capricorn Singers. 26 July – James from Acorn Woodcraft came along for the next Summer of Fun event. He did a chainsaw wood carving demonstration, making a lovely bench for the new garden at Derby Road car park. Held our usual monthly Clean Up and monthly Meet Up.
August 25	2 Aug – Thanks to LANPAC funding, the local Neighbourhood Policing Team are now using the C4C Shop as a base. 12 Aug – Brought the delightful donkeys along for an extra visit, part of the Summer of Fun series of events 19 Aug – Another Summer of Fun Tuesday – this time Crazy Golf. 23 Aug – Hosted our first room rental – Sue Jordan with her Resin Jewellery Workshops. 26 Aug – Brought the donkeys back again, for yet another visit! 28 Aug – Started the new fortnightly Thursday Crafts session – mostly messy crafts – making things to sell in the shop. Sat 30 Aug – Dinosaurs and a Gaming Bus visited Princess Road today – another Summer of Fun activity. Volunteers began fitting the new kitchen units, worktops etc in the shop. Thanks to a grant from the Eric Wright Charitable Fund. Held our usual monthly Clean Up and monthly Meet Up.
September 25	3 Sept – Held our first new monthly coffee morning at the C4C Shop. 8 Sept – Liz B started her new crochet and knit group, weekly on Monday afternoons, making things to sell in the shop. 11 Sept – collected £125 from TH Fenton Funeral Directors, collected at their Bank Holiday Monday charity car wash. 13 Sept – Our next big outdoor event, Dancing on the Prom. Sadly the weather was far to windy – and wet! So it moved indoors into the Top Club. 13 Sept – Drew the winner of the silver Ogre pendant – ticket 0010 Graham Ward. 14 Sept – Sue Jordan was back with her Resin Jewellery Workshop. 15 Sept – Published and launched our Cleveleys 2026 Fundraising Calendar. 16 Sept – Crazy Golf was back again for the Summer of Fun. 23 Sept – Moved our C4C Meet Up to the community room at the Shop. 27 Sept – The last in the series of Summer of Fun events, Little Zoo to You was a great finale to the kids activities. 27 Sept – Drew the winner of the ‘Name the Owl’ competition – Sharon Steedon is the lucky winner, calling him ‘Oldham Owl’! Completed fitting of the kitchen – and what a difference it’s made! Held our usual monthly Clean Up and monthly Meet Up.
October 25	1 Oct – Coffee morning and recycling roadshow. 6 Oct – installed a Smart Meter at the Shop to reduce and track electricity consumption. 6 Oct – team clean-up in the shop and dressing the window for Halloween. 9 Oct – started the fortnightly Thursday Craft Group, making things to sell in the shop. 9 Oct – Neighbourhood Police hosted Coffee with a Cop in the Shop. 10 Oct – Launched the new data destruction service, collection point for old equipment. 17 Oct – Received 6 x pieces of Heras Fencing and printed covers from Balfour Beatty – to use as wind breaks/back-drops at events. 22 Oct – held Brew and Meet at the Shop in conjunction with the Rossall Beach Group. Consultation on plans to redevelop Jubilee Gardens. 22 Oct – Put the Poppy Net installation up at the Clock Garden in time for Remembrance. 25 Oct – Our Halloween event ‘Myths and Mystery‘, outdoors in the town centre. Including the new Human Fruit Machine! 26 Oct – Collected bras for ‘Against Breast Cancer’ charity. 31 Oct – hosted a face painter in the Shop, to get people ready for trick or treat! Held our usual monthly Clean Up and monthly Meet Up.
November 25	1 Nov – Provided (and paid for) 6 x picnic benches for Princess Road. Facilitated additional Remembrance Hearts for the Christmas Tree . 3 Nov – Volunteers installed Christmas Lights ready for connection by our electrician. Commercial lights installed by contractors. 3 Nov – team clean-up in the shop and dressing the window and Shop for Christmas. 6 Nov – scooped Gold at the 2025 NW In Bloom Awards, plus a discretionary award for Community Engagement. 8 Nov – Organised the towns Remembrance Service at Poppy Corner. 10 Nov – held a meeting for Shop staff to review progress and discuss suggestions. 11 Nov – community workshop to make bulb cups with recycled donations to sell in the Shop at Christmas. 13 Nov – Neighbourhood Police hosted Coffee with a Cop in the Shop. 18 Nov – Poppy sales in the Shop raised £207.77 for the Royal British Legion. 22 Nov – Christmas Lights Switch On Event. 22 Nov – Drew the winners of our 2025 Grand Christmas Draw. 24 Nov – Decorated our entry for the Christmas Tree Festival with KAVS crochet and makes. Pipped to the post by 10 votes! Held our usual monthly Clean Up and monthly Meet Up. Weekly Monday Crochet Group and fortnightly Thursday Crafts Group.
December 25	1 Dec – Party afternoon at The Venue – our annual treat enjoyed by about 35 volunteers. 11 Dec – Neighbourhood Police hosted Coffee with a Cop in the Shop. 12 Dec – Planning permission secured for the new ‘Welcome to Cleveleys’ sign. 13 Dec – Carol Singing with Santa Event at Princess Road. Perfect weather for a lovely festive day! 15 Dec – 20 volunteers enjoyed a 70th birthday party for one of the group in the community room at the Shop. 18 Dec – Received a generous £400 donation from The Shipwreck Brewhouse, from sales of their locals discount card. Held our usual monthly Clean Up and monthly Meet Up. Weekly Monday Crochet Group and fortnightly Thursday Crafts Group.

In 2024…

January 24	2 Jan – held another Volunteer Recruitment Event at The Dickens, where a whopping number of people turned up to help out in the town. Drawn up and agreed our plans, priorities and event dates for the coming year. 10 Jan – completely redesigned the clock garden with a new, seaside theme. Received a donation of litter pickers, hoops and hi-viz vests from Balfour Beatty. Held our new monthly C4C Meet Up and the usual monthly Clean Up.
February 24	Launched the Cleveleys In Bloom 2024 Spring Raffle. 20 and 28 Feb – planted 16 trees in the grass verge at Derby Road car park. Held a Spring Gardening Talk in association with the Rossall Beach Group, with Greg Anderton from Leafy Lytham. 29 Feb – visited Northfold School with seeds for the children to grow and shared with volunteers who will grow them for Cleveleys. Held our usual monthly Clean Up. The monthly Meet Up has moved to St Andrew’s Church due to lack of space at The Dickens!
March 24	19 March – held a Cleveleys stall at the StayBlackpool trade show. 20 March – started planning the 2024 Christmas lights! 20 & 21 March – base coated the back wall of the bus station ready for a new mural. 30 March – hosted a fabulous Easter Fun Day in the town centre. Held our usual monthly Clean Up and monthly Meet Up. Started planning this years Christmas lights!
April 24	Early April – built a compost bin from old pallets and installed at Rough Lea Road flowerbed. 17 April – Enjoyed a talk from Gregg Anderton at Leafy Lytham about creating a spring garden. Organised by Capricorn Singers. 25 April – installed six new small benches to go with the square planters – now people have somewhere to sit outside Superdrug! Held our usual monthly Clean Up and monthly Meet Up. On 30 April our Meet Up moved again, this time to the Top Club.
May 24	2 May – built and planted the new flower bed at Derby Road car park. 4 May – fundraising stall at the town centre (which would have been a craft fair in better weather!) 5 May – launched call-out for knitted Remembrance poppies. 7 May – held the launch event for the History & Mystery of Cleveleys Trail, in the bus station. 13 May – received £250 donation to help our quest for In Bloom Gold, from The Venue. 14 May – installed the first new poster gallery at New Look alley – with 10 large format local views. 21 May – reconfigured the grey planters at the Plaza into rockeries, thanks to yet more rocks from Balfour Beatty! 22 May – delivered assembly at Northfold Primary, with a History & Mystery leaflet for each pupil. 25 May – Local decorator Lewis Michael has secured free paint and materials from Johnstone’s for restoration of the clock shelter. 30 May – the C4C Weed Warriors started their annual blitz! Held our usual monthly Clean Up and monthly Meet Up.
June 24	5 June – 80th anniversary of D-Day post box topper made by a crochet volunteer and installed at Victoria Road. 10 June – presented with the latest Shipwreck Brewhouse donation from sale of their loyalty cards. A whopping £1175! 19 June – Weed Warriors out in full force – putting in plenty of sessions to keep the town clean and weed free. 22 June – Placed and planted three new half barrels along the pavement edge outside Poundland. 23 June – Began cataloguing the insects, plants and animals which take up residence in the Derby Road Wildlife Friendly areas. 28 June – New Look nominated C4C as their fundraising good cause – they’re collecting in store and via the till. Held our usual monthly Clean Up and monthly Meet Up.
July 24	Early July – lots of extra sessions, planting, weeding, litter picking, gardening and doing jobs before the In Bloom judges visit. Early July – launched Care for Cleveleys Fundraising Challenge. 10 July – first of the new Soulful Wednesday Afternoon fundraising events at the Top Club. 11 July – judging day for Cleveleys In Bloom 2024. Fingers crossed!
August 24	10 August – held a Fun Day at Jubilee Gardens. Started restoration of the clock shelter – what a big job! Held our usual monthly Clean Up and monthly Meet Up – plus the new Soulful Wednesday fundraising event.
September 24	7 September – organised the brilliant Dancing on the Prom event on the seafront and town centre. 30 September – Patrina and Alan attended the Social Prescribers coffee afternoon. Held our usual monthly Clean Up and monthly Meet Up – plus the new Soulful Wednesday fundraising event.
October 24	2 October – launched the 2025 Cleveleys fundraising calendar. 5 October – launched the Christmas Raffle – fundraising for Care for Cleveleys Made a cascading poppies installation which was fitted to the clock shelter throughout the Remembrance period. Knitted and crochet poppies were sent in from all over the UK. The Crochet Team also made new bollard toppers and wreaths for Poppy Corner, prior to the event. 26 October – Organised the fabulous fun Halloween Day in Cleveleys, at Peacocks end of Victoria Road West. 31 October – Cleveleys In Bloom went to the North West Awards in Bolton. Astonished to come away with two discretionary awards, along with a Gold! Previous Christmas tree organiser Cllr Andrea Kay requested a flag-pole at Poppy Corner and with the help of Wyre Council this was installed. Held our usual monthly Clean Up and monthly Meet Up – plus the new Soulful Wednesday fundraising event.
November 24	2 November – in response to requests from stallholders, Emma Ellison organised the first ‘Early Christmas‘ indoor craft fair at the Top Club. Great day – to be repeated! 9 November – held a Saturday Remembrance in Cleveleys event. For the town and its veterans. 14 November – what a day! Today we heard that Care for Cleveleys has secured a King’s Award for Voluntary Service. The highest award a group can get, equivalent to an MBE! 19 November – on a freezing cold day, volunteers fastened engraved wooden remembrance hearts on the newly installed Christmas tree. 23 November – The Christmas Switch On! The weather was appalling so the majority of this lovely, festive event was held indoors, thanks to the Top Club. The rain eased for Switch On Star Russell Grant to turn on the lights with a crowd under the cover of Poundland’s canopy. 30 December – entered St Andrew’s Church Christmas Tree Festival. 30 November – thank you to Millstores for providing space for volunteers to have a stall and collect in-store. Held our usual monthly Clean Up and monthly Meet Up – plus the new Soulful Wednesday fundraising event.
December 24	2 December – time for a party! Care for Cleveleys and Rossall Beach Group volunteers enjoyed food, song and dancing at The Venue party afternoon. 5 December – thank you to Kays Fish and Chips for hosting the core volunteers for a complimentary fish and chip Christmas lunch to celebrate the KAVS 14 December – organised the Meet Santa event outside Peacocks – with free gifts at Santa’s grotto! Held our usual monthly Clean Up – and the last Soulful Wednesday fundraising event of 2024.

April 2023	Cleaned, refurbished and re-stained all of the brown wooden town centre benches. Bought, installed and filled three new planters at the bus station. Bought, installed and filled two huge planters at the triangle opposite the bus station. Held our monthly C4C Meet Up and the usual monthly Clean Up. ‘Weed Warriors’ started their campaign to keep the streets free of weeds.
May 2023	Held a crochet and craft session – the start of the amazing town centre yarn-bombing installations! Launched our Ko-Fi online fundraising page – where we can also sell products too. Held our monthly C4C Meet Up and the usual monthly Clean Up. ‘Weed Warriors’ in full force as the weeds get vigorous.
June 2023	Delivered a creative arts session at Manor Beach School, painting butterflies with children in a lead up to our Arts Day. Put bunting up at the clock shelter and bus station. Held our monthly C4C Meet Up and the usual monthly Clean Up. ‘Weed Warriors’ out in force almost every evening, keeping those pesky weeds away.
July 2023	Launched a first range of fund-raising merchandise – mugs, prints and bags. Made and installed Mary’s Garden outside Cats Protection. Made new wooden planters for Victoria Road West. Held our monthly C4C Meet Up and the usual monthly Clean Up.
August 2023	Delivered the amazing Mythic Coast Mural at Jubilee Gardens. Hosted our first public event – the Community Arts Fun Day in Jubilee Gardens. Launched the 2023 Grand Christmas Draw. Held our monthly C4C Meet Up and the usual monthly Clean Up.
September 2023	Staged the first ‘Celebrate Cleveleys’ event – learn to dance on the promenade! Eight volunteers attended a Level 2 First Aid course. Supported the Wyre Council consultation on proposed highways improvements and pedestrianisation of Princess Road. Held our monthly C4C Meet Up and the usual monthly Clean Up.
October 2023	Held a spooktastic Halloween event on Victoria Road West with lots of family friendly fun and entertainment. Raised funds and installed new festoon lights at two alleys from Victoria Road West and green canopy at Superdrug, with sponsored install of electrics at Vape shop, Cats Protection and Irene’s cafe. Turned on the Winter Lights – brightening up the town during the dreary months of winter! Launched the 2024 Cleveleys fundraising calendar. Attended the North West In Bloom Awards where we won Silver Gilt. Held our monthly C4C Meet Up and the usual monthly Clean Up.
November 2023	Arranged a Remembrance Day service at Poppy Corner, paying tribute to our Armed Forces. Refurbished and repainted the Poppy benches and Tommy soldier at Poppy Corner. Entered St Andrew’s Church Christmas Tree Festival – and won the adult category! Installed and commissioned public address/music system with the help of Cats Protection. Held our monthly C4C Meet Up and the usual monthly Clean Up.
December 2023	Raised funds for and installed new lights at the Clock Garden and installed other Christmas Lights in Cleveleys. Organised the Christmas Lights Switch On event with Santa and fun for all the family. Volunteers enjoyed their own Christmas party at The Venue! Held our monthly C4C Meet Up and the usual monthly Clean Up.
