On Tuesday 28 April, Care for Cleveleys welcomed the Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire. Mrs Amanda Parker made a special visit to meet the volunteers and find out more about their work. She was accompanied by her husband, Mr Robert Parker, with the Mayor of Wyre, Cllr Steve Nicholls, in attendance.
The Lord Lieutenant is the King’s representative in Lancashire. Mrs Parker had previously presented Care for Cleveleys with the King’s Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS) in January 2025. KAVS is the MBE for voluntary groups. The highest award given to local volunteer groups in the UK and marks out outstanding community service.

The volunteer management team welcomed the guests to the Care for Cleveleys Shop. There, volunteers explained how all funds raised in the retail space are invested back into the town.
Other rooms in the building host all kinds of activities, meetings and events, and are available to hire. Mrs Parker met a number of volunteers. From those who have been involved from the every start to brand new members.
Recognising the Volunteers
Jane Littlewood is Chair and founder of the group. She explains “Everything that our team does is entirely in the best interests of the group and the town. There’s such a broad spread of tasks, activities and responsibilities, all contributing to keeping Cleveleys amazing. It’s really important to recognise and acknowledge how much work, effort and dedication everyone contributes. An official visit of this nature is a special way to do that.”
After refreshments and cake (vital to any Care for Cleveleys gathering) Mrs Parker and guests were treated to an entertaining demonstration of the new water collection system, recently installed at the Care for Cleveleys Shop. A complicated array of water barrels and pipes is now collecting rainwater for the Watering Team to use on all the many planters and displays across the town.
